The fur is flying at the Manhattan Vintage Clothing Show, when the city\u2019s favorite vintage fashion shopping event returns to the Metropolitan Pavilion.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe elegance and sophistication of fur has definitely captured the eye of today\u2019s designers, who, by nature are more adventuresome,\u201d says David Ornstein, founder of the Manhattan Vintage Clothing Show.\u00a0 Today, it is the new look of fur \u2013 more lightweight and versatile– that is driving the market.\u00a0 While traditional full-length furs are still in demand, casual looks have made fur \u2018today\u2019s news.\u2019 \u00a0 We haven\u2019t seen this much fur in the fashion picture since the 80s!\u201d<\/p>\n
Just how big a trend is it?\u00a0 Fur is this season\u2019s fashion headliner with all kinds of fur \u2013 long, short, faux, real \u2013 cropping up on collars, cuffs, sleeves, hems, and decorating everything from hats, gloves, boots to bags.\u00a0 Designers can\u2019t get enough of it! Donna Karan favored lavish fur collars and wrist-to-elbow cuffs, and Miu Miu made a dramatic statement with wide fur shoulders a la 80s, and an a white fur clutch handbag.\u00a0 Isabael Marant paired a short fur cat with knee-high boots matching fur, while the Alexander McQueen collection featured an hour glass coat in fur!\u00a0 Such fun and so glamorous!<\/p>\n
\u201cStressed out consumers are just now beginning to reward themselves with small luxuries,\u201d adds Ornstein. \u00a0 The good news is that owning a fur need not break the bank. One can wear a touch of fur this fall for under a hundred\u00a0 (vintage fur-trimmed cashmere sweaters start at $95) or a full-length coat for $250-$2000 (Try finding a new one in this price range!).<\/p>\n
