Organization History and Mission
\nA Place for Kids (APFK) is an educational institution providing quality cultural enrichment to support a child\u2019s opportunity
\nto succeed in the future. Over 40 years old, APFK was founded by a group of community minded college students from
\nthe City College of New York who realized the dire need for low-cost year-round childcare for the children in lower
\nManhattan.<\/p>\n
A Place for Kids provides an after-school and summer program for over 90 children, ages five to eleven. We serve
\nfamilies living or working in lower Manhattan. We provide recreation, homework assistance, a nutritious meal, and
\nenrichment.<\/p>\n
Job Description
\nThe Director will report to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the leadership of APFK. The Director will
\nparticipate with the Board of Directors in developing a vision and strategic plan to guide the organization and will be
\nresponsible for implementing the vision. The Director\u2019s responsibilities:
\n\uf0a7 Develop an operational and strategic plan which incorporates the goals and objectives of APFK
\n\uf0a7 Oversee the efficient and effective daily operation of the organization
\n\uf0a7 Oversee contracts with the Health Department, Department for the Aging, amongst others
\n\uf0a7 Recruit, interview and select staff that have the right educational and personal abilities to help further APFK\u2019s mission.
\nAdditionally, director will oversee development of professional staff
\n\uf0a7 Research funding sources, oversee the development of fund raising plans and write funding proposals to increase the
\nfunds of the organization
\n\uf0a7 Manage administration of organization\u2019s finances \u2013 work closely with the board, bookkeeper, and accountant
\n\uf0a7 Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, partnering
\norganizations, funders, parents, and school personnel
\n\uf0a7 Organize and manage volunteers and interns from partnering organizations (AAYC, NYU, etc.)
\nJob Qualifications
\n\uf0a7 Bachelors degree in Education or Social Sciences
\n\uf0a7 Minimum of two years teaching experience (ages 5+)
\n\uf0a7 Budget management experience required
\n\uf0a7 Ability and willingness to write grant proposals
\n\uf0a7 Proficiency with computers and standard productivity tools (MS Word, MS Excel required \/ Quickbooks preferred)
\n\uf0a7 Minimum of two years administration experience preferred
\n\uf0a7 Fundraising experience preferred
\n\uf0a7 Bi-lingual Chinese skills preferred<\/p>\n
