For that event the proceed will go the Hurricane Sandy Relief effort, In particular, to the Breezy Point firemen<\/strong> whose houses were burned down. We felt terrible that many of them were the first responders at 9\/11 terrorist attack and now are homeless. Mr. Daniel Nigro<\/strong>, Fire Chief during the recovery of the September 11th attack, has accepted “Hello Taiwan Rocks!” organizers’ invitation to send FDNY firefighters to attend the 11\/17 concert.\u00a0 So let’s show them our warmest support!!<\/p>\n

New York City has long been one of the leading centers of indie music movement. Within it, Taiwanese musicians are also in the scene making music and hoping one day in reaching to the top.<\/p>\n

Last year, many local Taiwanese communities held a concert named \u201cHello Taiwan Rocks!\u201d in the Taiwan Center located in Flushing New York with four Taiwanese indie-bands based in the Greater New York area. The concert provided a platform for the bands to perform while the fans got to listen to many amazing Taiwanese bands perform for a night of rock-and-roll, a cultural night to be remembered together before the Thanksgiving festivities.<\/p>\n

Flushing is where many of the Taiwanese immigrants settle when they first arrive in New York, and Taiwan Center was established to be the community hub for all Taiwanese events. Though the concert is only in its third year, the organizers wish it to be an annual tradition to provide an opportunity for the indie bands to showcase their music and for the younger generation to unite, celebrate and network.<\/p>\n

This year, we have also added the popular Taiwanese culture, Taiwan Night Market,<\/strong> to bring you all some Taiwan’s most iconic snacks while enjoy the performance at the same time!<\/p>\n

Free admission from 6-7pm: come early to EAT, DRINK and MINGLE!<\/strong><\/p>\n

7-10pm is $10 at the door: let’s get the music feast and PARTY started!

Bio: The name Ya Han Chang is very familiar to Taiwanese audiences. In 2004, she was hand-picked by Dreamworks Pictures- China to record the song “Hero”, used in the film Shrek 2. She is also a company member and lead singer of the highly acclaimed and award-winning a capella group, Semiscon, with which she has toured all over the world. Ya Han is highly sought after on the regional theatre circuit, particularly in productions of The King and I and Miss Saigon. Bio: Blending the hauntingly versatile traditional Chinese violin (ErHu) with modern American rock engineering \u2013 meet The Hsu-Nami!<\/p>\n

An international renowned Erhu fronted instrumental prog-rock band from the New York city. The Hsu-Nami. Integrates an amplified electric \u201derhu\u201d, a tweaked two-string spike fiddle used in Chinese classical and folk music, into a rock lineup. The band typically compose len gthy erhu melodic-based instrumental pieces that feature dynamic contrast, heavy guitar riffs, melodic bass guitar lines and trading solo. Part of the new-fusion rock movement, the Hsu-Nami redefines the 1960s and 1970s progressive fusion rock. Hsu-Nami\u2019s music was featured in the 2008 Summer Olympic in Beijing. Bio: At the age of ten, Paul, Eric, Steve and Elsa were the founding members of the Giga Herbs! (Originally “The Sleepy Hamburger Gang” A.K.A The Bubu-Lubu Bunch). Although they weren\u2019t physically acquainted with one another at that point, their spirits were bound by an unknowable instinct, a gravitational force of the soul much like that of the planets. This pulling caused the great Y2K infestation and forever fused megabits into their DNA. In 2010 they met, musically, in a small room adorned with Greek columns and Octopi, out in a white house on Staten Island. The rent was cheap so they forged their musical swords and never turned back. With Pauly “Premium” Americano on lead guitar, Hairy “Henny” Harry on bass, Steve Money on drums and Elsa”Bicho” on Micro-Korg they form Giga Herbs!
