Queens Democratic Assembly candidate Ron Kim has made history: he has become the first Korean-American lawmaker in the state of New York. <\/p>\n

In Flushing\u2019s newly drawn 40th District, Democratic, Working Families and Independence candidate Ron Kim beat Republican Philip Gim with 66 percent of the votes against his opponent\u2019s 34 percent, according to unofficial NY 1 results. Kim campaigned largely on promoting small business growth and education in the district.<\/p>\n

About Ron
\nBeginning his career in public service as an aide to then-Assemblyman Mark Weprin, Ron moved on to work in the Department of Buildings and the Department of Small Business Services. At the City Council, Ron worked as a Policy Analyst, writing and examining legislation on issues related to transportation, infrastructure, and economic development.<\/p>\n

As a Regional Director for Government and Community Affairs in the administrations of two New York State Governors, he collaborated and worked with a varied group of state agencies, elected officials, and community organizations.<\/p>\n

Ron has served as Vice President of the Korean American Association of Greater New York and as a Management Fellow advising the Chief Education Office of the Chicago Public Schools. Currently, Ron advocates on behalf of children with special needs, small business, and vulnerable New Yorkers.<\/p>\n
