\nPrimary Responsibilities
\n\u2022 Continually analyze and evaluate internal financial systems, and establish and oversee implementation of long-and short-term plans, policies, procedures and controls to ensure an effective, efficient and stable financial infrastructure.
\n\u2022 Oversee the development and management of the annual operating budgets in collaboration with the Executive Director; and facilitate the budgeting process, including working closely with program managers and making recommendations to Executive Director. Develop long-range, capital and other special budgets.
\n\u2022 Oversee and direct review of all bookkeeping and day-to-day accounting work for the organization performed by the bookkeeper, including review of the processing and class coding of bills, checks payments, deposits and credit card transactions.
\n\u2022 Oversee and direct review of all accounting and finance activities to ensure the fiscal integrity and accuracy of annual audits, tax reports and other required filings.
\n\u2022 Oversee human resource needs including all aspects of payroll, pension plans, unemployment, and other employee benefit programs as needed.
\n\u2022 Review income and expenses by program, including direct and allocated expenses, to monitor compliance with restricted funding sources; generate program reporting as required by funders; review of functional allocation of expenses booked by the finance staff assistants.
\n\u2022 Support grants proposal, maintenance and reporting processes with development department.
\n\u2022 Coordinate and oversee the production and presentation of financial reports as required.
\n\u2022 Coordinate and oversee the work of external auditors.
\n\u2022 Provide for regular and detailed reporting for individual program as well as monthly tracking and reporting actual versus budget.
\n\u2022 Work closely with the Executive Director to maintain the organization\u2019s fiscal health by providing monthly Income & Expense reports and cash flow projections.
\n\u2022 Oversee the maintenance and preparation by the Finance staff assistants of records for payroll services, taxes, development reports and audits.
\n\u2022 Oversee bookkeeper.
\n\u2022 Oversee the billing process with the New York City Department of Education.
\n\u2022 Oversee maintenance of the general ledger, including schedules of all balance sheet accounts including preparation of bank reconciliations.<\/p>\n

Member of Executive Staff
\n\u2022 Execute a high level of fiscal control, leadership, vision, judgment, and communication skills.
\n\u2022 Participate in strategic direction and execution, both ensuring its future direction and enhancing its present position in terms of institutional capacity, and earned and contributed revenue strategies.
\n\u2022 Comfortable working directly with Board of Directors and Finance Committee.<\/p>\n

Qualifications
\n\u2022 Five or more years of substantive experience in accounting for 501(C)(3) organizations, financial analysis, and budgeting with extensive knowledge of financial principles and practices in nonprofit organizations, including 501(c)(3).
\n\u2022 Knowledge and experience with A\/R, A\/P, G\/L, reporting, billing, and payroll.
\n\u2022 Strong computer skills, including experience with MS Excel, Great Plains Software and FRx Reporting Software are preferred but similar software programs are acceptable.
\n\u2022 Proven ability to plan and implement financial systems and procedures which allow an organization to operate smoothly, flexibly, and with integrity.
\n\u2022 Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
\n\u2022 Proven ability to build staff cohesiveness and collegiality through honest and clear communication; ability to work effectively with all levels of staff.
\n\u2022 Ability to establish priorities and juggle numerous assignments at one time.
\n\u2022 Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
\n\u2022 Discretion, maturity, and composure, especially under pressure.
\n\u2022 Bachelor\u2019s degree in finance, MBA preferred.
\n\u2022 Interest\/knowledge arts education, or the performing arts is an asset.<\/p>\n
