\nKabuki Performance by Prof. Kyoko Ohnishi\tKabuki is a classical Japanese dance-drama. Kabuki theatre is known for the stylization of its drama and for the elaborate make-up worn by some of its performers. The word kabuki is believed to derive from the verb kabuku, meaning “to lean” or “to be out of the ordinary”, kabuki can be interpreted as “avant-garde” or “bizarre” theatre. Prof. Kyoko Ohnishi, Japanese instructor at Rutgers University, will be demonstrating the kabuki performance.

\nRob Lok’s performance\tRob Lok is an international variety performer and contemporary clown. He was the first Chinese-American clown to work for a major American circus. Since 2000, he has worked with the Bond Street Theatre in developing social circus programs in Afghanistan and Eastern Europe.
\nIaijustsu demonstration by Deborah Klens Bigman and the Japan Club performance\tThe art of Iaido is descended from the fighting arts of the samurai, who ruled Japan from 1603-1868. As Japan became a peaceful, unified country, rather than abandon these techniques, the samurai decided to incorporate ethical, aesthetic and philosophical aspects to their practice. The Iaijustsu demonstration will be followed by student performance by the Japan Club.<\/p>\n
