The domestic debates over healthcare reform and the budget have required a great deal of the administration\u2019s attention, while the responses to Syria\u2019s civil war and Iran\u2019s nuclear program have occupied much of the U.S.\u2019s diplomatic focus. At the same time, tensions continue to rise throughout East Asia as territorial disputes and nationalistic sentiments hamper dialog between the major regional powers.
