National Asian Artists Project (NAAP) will present the classic Charles Dickens musical, OLIVER! this June as part of the Re-Discover Series. With book, music and lyrics by Lional Bart, OLIVER! has become one of the most popular musicals in the world. NAAP will be presenting the London version of this show under the direction of Steven Eng and choreography by Baayork Lee. Starring Raul Aranas as Fagin, Anthea Neri as Nancy and Bonale Zohn Fambrini as Oliver.

One of the highlights of last year was the production of Hello, Dolly! that was put on by an entirely Asian cast at the National Asian Artists Project. I never saw a cast have such a great time performing a show before. Asian actors who had wanted to be in Hello, Dolly! all their lives were getting their chance to shine. There was a sense of joy about that production that I’ll never forget.

This year the same group will be putting on a production of Oliver! I can hardly wait. Oliver! is a show that I’ve never seen performed on the stage. Since the 1960′s, it was only briefly on Broadway, and seen by New York City audiences, in 1984, when a London production came here and closed soon after opening, so it’s about time it came back – and it will be done to perfection by NAAP!
