The oratorio tells the story of the conversion of Saul, later known as the apostle Paul. It consists of three dramatic sections: the martyrdom of St. Stephen, Saul\u2019s conversion, and Paul\u2019s later life spreading the gospel and the creation of the Christian church at Ephesus. Conflict and devotion are portrayed through big choral fugues.
