Opening the program is Schubert\u2019s Quartettsatz, a dynamic single movement for string quartet, in a transcription for chamber orchestra which requires razor-sharp precision, superlative ensemble and a heightened sense of drama. In contrast to this brevity is the sprawling and romantic Enescu Octet, that composer\u2019s Romanian answer to the octet of Felix Mendelssohn.
