Project Connect Coordinator
\nFLSA Status Non-Exempt – Reports to the LGBT Program Manager<\/p>\n
Project Description: Project Connect is a program created by Apicha Community Health Center to improve health outcomes for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning and intersex (LGBTQI) Asian and Pacific Islander (API) communities throughout New York City. Project Connect\u2019s goals are to: 1) Increase access and improve the quality of health and human services to LGBTQI Asian &Pacific Islanders; 2) Address homophobia and raise awareness of and support for LGBTQI Asian &Pacific Islanders; and 3) Empower LGBTQI Asian &Pacific Islanders individuals and families, thereby, improving their overall health and well-being.<\/p>\n
Position Summary: The Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating all aspects of the programs and services offered through Project Connect which includes monthly health and wellness workshops, a youth mentorship for empowerment program, and LGBTQI Asian &Pacific Islanders sensitivity trainings to health and human service providers.<\/p>\n
Duties and Responsibilities Include:
\n\u2022 Market and promote Project Connect to the LGBTQI API community to ensure that programs and
\nservices are appropriate, well-branded and reflective of the needs of the community;
\n\u2022 Recruit and retain a core group of mentors to provide a safe-space and supportive community for
\nyouth to discuss their identities as both API and LGBTQI;
\n\u2022 Facilitate a series of informal roundtable discussions with volunteer mentors and young LGBTQI
\nparticipants covering a wide range of topics (i.e., building supportive networks and self-esteem,
\ncoming out to family members and in the workplace);
\n\u2022 Develop a year-long health and wellness workshop curriculum that helps LGBTQI API adults build
\nimportant skills around healthy relationships and self-care as well as receive information about
\nculturally competent resources in the LGBTQI community;
\n\u2022 Conduct outreach to other community-based organizations to raise awareness of the unique needs of
\nthe LGBTQI API community and increase capacity to serve this population;
\n\u2022 Conduct on-going quality assurance and evaluation activities to ensure that Project Connect is
\nreaching its intended audience and meeting its outlined goals;
\n\u2022 Timely submission of project reports and data entry as required by funder;
\n\u2022 Represent Project Connect as well as APICHA Community Health Center at various health fairs and
\nother community events;
\n\u2022 Any other activities as assigned.<\/p>\n
Qualifications:
\n\u2022 Bachelor\u2019s degree with minimum work experience equivalent to 1 year of full-time work experience
\nor high school diploma\/GED and work experience equivalent to 3 years of full-time work experience.
\n\u2022 Familiarity with LGBTQI A&PI issues;
\n\u2022 Ability to work in diverse cultural environments;
\n\u2022 Excellent written and verbal English communication and interpersonal skills.
\n\u2022 Fluency in one or more A&PI languages preferred.
\n\u2022 Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends.
\n\u2022 Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in multi-disciplinary environment.
\n\u2022 Creative, independent team player capable of working within an organizational structure.
\n\u2022 Ability to use common office software: Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook.
\n\u2022 Ability to use public transportation.<\/p>\n
