Their fifth annual event will be held on Thursday June 2nd and Friday June 3rd with the brand new selection of independent short films directed by emerging new young and also well-established directors. All films are in English or with English subtitles. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-64376\" href=\"http:\/\/www.asianinny.com\/?attachment_id=64376\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-64376\" title=\"Annual New York Japan Cinefest at Asia Society in New York City\" src=\"http:\/\/www.asianinny.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/\u7a7a\u3063\u307b\u309a\u306e\u6e261.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"432\" height=\"243\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A special guest for the first night is Michael McAteer, the director of  \u201cMatcha: An Ippodo Story.\u201d There will be a Q&amp;A session after the screening with the directors, Noriko Yuasa (Girl, Wavering), Lucy Craft \u00e5(Fall Seven Times, Get Up Eight) on the second night.<\/p>\n<p>New York Japan CineFest (NYJCF) was founded in 2012 by Kosuke Furukawa, (Filmmaker), Hiroshi Kono, (Event\/Music producer and CEO of Mar Creation, Inc.) and Yasu Suzuki (Actor and Filmmaker), who are all based in New York City.<\/p>\n<p>NYJCF was presented in eight cities, such as Boston, Washington DC and Houston TX in its 2015 season which ended this past April.  In addition, NYJCF has been collaborating with film festivals in Japan;  Sapporo International Short Film Festival, New Directors Film Festival and Aichi International Women\u2019s Film Festival. They are continuing to contribute to the growth of Japanese films and to provide places for independent filmmakers to express their views.<\/p>\n<p>[Program 1 on Thursday, June 2]<br \/>\nValley of Dolls<br \/>\nDir. Steven Murashige. 2015. USA. 18 min.<br \/>\nA family struggles with the debilitating effects of Multiple Sclerosis as it affects Clara, a young wife and mother. After hearing of a miraculous healing treatment for MS sufferers, they begin administering multiple bee stings to Clara on a daily basis\u2014totaling more than 3,000 over the course of a year. The story chronicles the family&#8217;s journey with the treatment and the unexpected results it produces.<\/p>\n<p>TOKYO COSMO<br \/>\nDir. Takahiro Miyauchi. 2015. Japan. 5 min.<br \/>\nA woman lives alone in Tokyo, and is tired by her daily life and harbors feelings of loneliness. Her stuffed pig creates a world of imagination to cheer her up.<\/p>\n<p>Swinging Skirt<br \/>\nDir. Yusaku Okamoto. 2014. Japan. 20 min.<br \/>\nA female high school student, Ayaka, plays a game: collecting money from men by showing off her underwear. It gets to be a big problem as it escalates.<\/p>\n<p>A Beautiful Person<br \/>\nDir. Isao Yukisada. 2016. Japan. 40 min.<br \/>\nA story about a filmmaker who came to a small town in Kumamoto for a location scout and a young woman he met at a small bookstore there.<\/p>\n<p>[Program 2 on Friday, June 3]<br \/>\nAmongst<br \/>\nDir. Chisa Hidaka. 2014. USA. 6 min.<br \/>\nDiscover the glorious disorientation of losing yourself in the dolphins\u2019 world, as you follow graceful (human) dancers into the deep ocean.<\/p>\n<p>JOSEITO<br \/>\nDir. Shigeyoshi Tsukahara. 2014. Japan. 14 min.<br \/>\nWhile a narrator reads from Osamu Dazai\u2019s \u201cSchoolgirl,\u201d a day in the life of a young girl in Showa-era Tokyo unfolds, featuring various retro items from the era.<\/p>\n<p>Girl, Wavering<br \/>\nDir. Noriko Yuasa. 2015. Japan. 19 min.<br \/>\nMizuho is a high school girl who works part time at an online dating website company. One day, she receives a request from a stranger named Kenzo who insists he needs an assistant to commit suicide.<\/p>\n<p>Fall Seven Times, Get Up Eight: The Japanese War Brides<br \/>\nDir. Lucy Craft, Karen Kasmauski, Kathryn Tolbert. 2015. USA. 26 min.<br \/>\nAtsuko, Emiko and Hiroko were among tens of thousands of Japanese women who married their former enemies after World War II. They landed in 1950s America, knowing no one, speaking little English and often moving in with stunned in-laws. Their recollections are further refracted through the eyes of their Japanese-American daughters. Personal photographs and visuals from US archival sources help bring to life this fascinating episode in US history.<\/p>\n<p>Take 8<br \/>\nDir. Shinichiro Ueda. 2015. Japan. 20 min.<br \/>\nAn independent filmmaker, Takao, is directing a film about a wedding starring his girlfriend, Akane. The film production is coming to a close, but there is one important scene left to shoot. Unfortunately, the actor who was to play the father-of-the-bride was unable to make the shoot. They had no choice but to let Akane\u2019s real father, Toru, play the role. But Toru wouldn\u2019t give them his blessings, either in the movie, or in real life.<\/p>\n<p>Fox Fears<br \/>\nDir. Miyo Sato. 2015. Japan. 8 min.<br \/>\nOn the evening of a village festival, a young boy named Bunroku goes to the festival with his friends and visits a clog shop on the way. There he learns an old superstition about the fox.<\/p>\n<p>Keino<br \/>\nDir. Evan Dennis. 2015.
