Spiral Music presents acoustic music every Wednesday evening at the base of the Museum\u2019s spiral staircase. Artists who specialize in music from the Himalayas and South Asia are invited to forge a connection between their music and the art in the galleries.<\/p>\n

Tenzin Tsomo has fostered a great passion for Tibetan music, having mastered instruments such as the dramyin, flute, and yangchen. Her love of Tibetan music and dance led to her training at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA), where she specialized in the artistic culture of Tibet. She is an advocate for the artistic engagement of Tibetan children and believes that culturally-rich classes will help to foster second-generation Himalayan American children\u2019s love of traditional culture.<\/p>\n

Tenzin Norbu specializes in erhu (piwang) and is a former member of the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA). He has held performances in India, Germany, the United States, Taiwan, and Bhutan. Based in New York, he is currently teaching music at the Tibetan Service Center. His service is dedicated to perpetuating the teaching of traditional Tibetan culture through music and dance while also incorporating elements of modern music theory in hopes of creating an artistic synthesis that showcases a union of the past and present.<\/p>\n
