The exploration by contemporary artists in China not only enriches the progress of painting, but also helps generate painting languages and styles that feature Chinese spiritual essence and characteristics of the times. Works in \u201cNew Painting: Contemporary Chinese Painting Exhibition\u201d are grounded on \u201cChinese art and experience,\u201d expressing the public and personal life experience in the context of both traditional and modern cultures in urban and rural areas.<\/p>\n

About 28 artists of the exhibition are those who have established their reputation through long-time exploration and hard work. They were mostly born from the 1950s to 1970s with academic backgrounds. And now, they are still serving the academic system as the backbone in both education sector and contemporary Chinese art. They witnessed the opening up and restructure of the social economy of China, and also played a big part in the rise of contemporary Chinese art. Throughout their life journey, they kept following the path of exploration, breaking through the framework of existing styles, and reshaping their own art languages and styles.<\/p>\n

\nWe live in a brand-new age which provides unparalleled opportunities for young people and unprecedented challenge to their self-awareness. Young artists are the future, and the speaker for the present. The reason is that they possess more information and a broader horizon, which requires them to make choices in this diverse and variable world.

\n\u201cNew Youth: China-America Young Artists Exhibition\u201d demonstrates works by young artists cutting a figure in the contemporary art field recently. They are from various colleges and universities, and their works are quite different in terms of style and pattern. But such variation stands for the choices they have made in this brand-new and variable age. \u201cNew Youth\u201d serves as a platform to present such choices in the art works to the whole world.<\/p>\n

\nThrough narrative techniques of the video art, works in this unit reflect the varying perspectives and unique thoughts of the younger generation of Chinese artists on social development, individual memories and emotions.
