Asian American \/ Asian Research Institute’s 2010 Sunset Cinema Series screening of Departures, on Friday, July 9, from 5:30PM to 8:00PM, at 25 West 43rd Street, Room 1000, between 5th & 6th Avenues, Manhattan.\"Sunset<\/a><\/p>\n

This four-session workshop will guide viewers on a retrospective study through some of Asian American \/ Asian cinema’s most beloved and highly acclaimed films from the past decade.<\/p>\n

Please adhere to the following:<\/p>\n

Registration only accepted per session each week, and starts Monday, at 1PM.
\nThere is no on-site admittance without prior registration and confirmation by e-mail or phone.
\nPlease do not arrive earlier than 5:20PM.

Freshly unemployed, young cellist Daigo (Masahiro Motoki) has an epiphany in which he realizes he’s been heading down the wrong career path. Retreating to his hometown, he trains for a new professional role as a Nakanshi, or one who prepares the dead for burial. Tsutomu Yamazaki provides comic relief as Daigo’s eccentric mentor in director Yojiro Takita’s Oscar-winning, richly detailed — if unlikely — drama about finding your bliss.<\/p>\n

This film will be shown in Japanese, with English subtitles.<\/p>\n
