Hiten Manseta was born in India and came to the United States with a MBA from University of Illinois. He is the master mind behind the popular handbag brand, Tusk.
(President and founder of Tusk)
From the bustling streets of Bombay to the syncopated beat of New York, Hiten Manseta transformed a generation of textile traders and apparel manufacturers into a contemporary accessories design firm. With the 50-year-old family-owned factory in India behind him, Hiten brought together the new world design team that launched the New York City–based company in 1993.
Tusk, the name was suggested by Hilten’s friend, was perfect in Hilten’s mind because Tusk was broad, and could mean an African Elephant or an Indian elephant. Tusk could also be applied to different product categories and would be perfect for perfume, jewelry, clothing, or a restaurant. One of Hilten’s friends also came up with the stylized logo. Under Hilten’s direction the business blossomed and the growing demand for new accessories with integrity in design, materials and manufacturing, encouraged Tusk to add to its line exquisitely designed top grain leather handbags in 1999.
By 2004, the Tusk expansion was complete with a sleek wholesale showroom, warehousing and a flagship retail store at 242 West 26th Street in the tony neighborhood of Chelsea, New York City. Tusk now has steadily drawn loyal support for their small leather goods from exclusive boutiques and fine department stores. The Tusk customer is not just following a brand, they’re looking for something luxurious and different, and Tusk handbag certainly delivers with integrity!
