12:30: GUAYAKILL: A punk rock band originaly integrated by members from Ecuador and Colombia. They have been rocking New York city’s latin rock scene since 2006. 1:15: SKARRONEROS is a brooklyn-based band who all share a love of Ska music and a penchant for songs that share a solidarity with immigrant workers. The band’s name comes from the prefix, Ska, followed by carroñero, which is a reference to scavenging birds like the vulture. It also references the colloquial term “ñero,” a person from the barrio, a poor working class neighborhood.
2:00: UZUHI: Far East from their Mother Land, in New York City, The Japanese Punk Rock band, Uzuhi, was born in Fall 2004. Uzuhi means “the Sun” in Japanese. The origin of the name came directly from their strong creed of music, “Music Has No Borders.”. As the Sun shines the world, Uzuhi plays music toward the world. When they just got formed, they could tend to be categorized as a Heavy Rock or Hard Core band. but with addition of new members including a pianist and drummer, a new style of Uzuhi was created in 2007.
2:45: R-TRONIKA has been singing in Spanish and English and integrating diverse genres such as techno, punk, ska, hip-hop, dub, reggae, rock and Andean music since 2004. They making fresh music with social content. With audiovisual artist Renzo Ortega at the helm of the group, R-Tronika is known for the charisma, enthusiasm and explosive energy it exudes on stage. R-Tronika’s sophomore EP on Vinyl follows 2009’s full-length Apple Pie CD.
3:15: KOFRE: starts off in New Jersey in the mid 90’s as one of the pioneer Latin rock bands of the east coast. After a few years of trying to find its own style, covering other bands and changes in the lineup, towards the dawn of the new millennium Kofre reinvents its sound, mixing Andean and Latin styles with ska. The lyrical side of the band reflects the immigrant experience in songs like “Oceano” and “Makina”. Musically, Kofre’s influences range from ska, reggae, Andean, cumbia, punk, rock, metal, jazz, afrobeat and progressive rock.
4:15: KARIKATURA is a band out of Brooklyn, NY seeking to combine the flavors of the worlds music while still preserving the art of songwriting and storytelling. The band fuses Eastern Europe with South America in a melee of Horns, Percussion and Soulful vocals that results in a sound that crosses borders and shows itself in their unique brand of Latin/Gypsy/Ska & Reggae.
