Vittorio J designer and founder Jesse Chao was married on April 29th, as part of TLC’s Royal Wedding Project. Together with his wife Marie, he was one of three couples participating in a live event in Times Square, broadcast live in sync with the Royal Wedding–TLC’s first live telecast ever.
Saying “I do” in front of millions of viewers, Chao wore a custom tie from the VJNY collection, arriving in stores later this year, along with a bespoke tuxedo, shoes by To Boot New York, and a custom shirt from Imparali Custom Tailors. The bride, Marie Chao, wore a dress by Anna Maier for Ulla-Maija Couture, and photos of the two were taken in Duffy Square, the Muse Hotel and on Broadway by wedding photographer Tom Wang. Early press included The Record and the Herald News. “It was an amazing experience for the both of us and want to thank TLC for the experience. We shared our special day with the biggest wedding the world has seen since Charles and Diana, it was really magical. As a designer, I was especially proud of wearing one of my own ties in front of millions of people. Marie and I are still recovering from the whole experience.” says Chao.
The VJNY collection is Vittorio J’s slimmest necktie collection to date (measuring 3 inches at each tie’s widest point), bringing a streetwear mentality to classic patterns and unique graphic motifs. The name emphasizes Vittorio J’s ties to New York City and its unique cultural soufflé. Inspirations include tattoos, streetwear designs and the flags of different countries. The production uses the best natural materials in the world–all cut and folded by hand–and since each design is created in a limited run, the ties are true collector’s items.
