The New York Chinese Cultural Center(NYCCC) is proud to present its 37th Annual Student Recital on Sunday, June 26th 2011 at BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center, at 199 Chambers St.

NYCCC, the leading Chinese cultural institution in New York City, provides over 3,000 classes and conducts workshops to more than 10,000 students citywide. Its School of the Arts offers a rich and comprehensive curriculum of Traditional and Folk Dance, Chinese Dance Technique, Martial Arts, Calligraphy, Painting and Arts and Crafts, Chinese Language and Cultural Appreciation all year-round. All classes are taught by the region’s most highly accomplished and professionally trained instructors and artists.
Over 200 students, from ages 3 to 60 enrolled in School of the Arts, have been learning Chinese dance, language, traditional visual arts, martial arts, and beijing opera acrobatics on Saturdays and Sundays. The annual student recital will showcase their hardwork and accomplishments during the 2010-2011 school year.
The diversity of dance selections with authentic costumes, music, and props, will transport the audience to a land of colorful myths, historical drama, and timeless beauty. Join us for a journey of Chinese culture on June 26th.
The event will kick-off with a celebratory Lion dance perform by our all female troupe. Then, experience the diversity of China’s minority groups as you take in dances from the Tibetan, Mongolian, Uygur, and Tai peoples among others. Watch as Buddhist cave painting come to life in our Dunhuang dance and be transported to the Tang dynasty court as water sleeves seem to unfurl with a flick of the wrist. Clap along to the lively rhythms of Northeastern China’s handkerchief dance and delight in the precision of our Long Tassel Drum dancers.
The New York Chinese Cultural Center is excited to continue our efforts in preserving and promoting the Chinese cultural arts through the Summer Camp at our School of the Arts program. This summer’s curriculum features a dynamic blend of Chinese folk dance, art, language and acrobatics. Enrollment for the summer camp running from July 9th to August 27th is open now for ages 3 ½ and up.
