We’re looking for Chinese American high school and college students to enroll in Talk Story, the Workshop’s special oral history writing workshop in which Asian American youth will share stories with senior citizens. As young women in the twenty-first century, your experience is unique–as are the stories of women who migrated here before you. We’re holding a series of six oral history/writing workshops this summer at the Grand Street Settlement Chinatown senior center, to bring you and your “grandmothers” into conversation. Novelist Deanna Fei, a former Fulbright Scholar and author of “A Thread of Sky,” will lead the workshops.
This is an excellent opportunity for you to hone your skills as a writer and to expand your multimedia skills. We would prefer some fluency in a Chinese dialect but language is no barrier! Translation services can be provided. Community service credit available. Please email Tara Sarath at desk@aaww.org or call (212) 494-0061 by noon on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 to sign up or get more details.
