8/23/2011 6:30 – 9:00 p.m.
The Village Pourhouse
The SkyBox Room ( 366 W. 46th Street, at 9th Avenue, New York, NY 10036)
UNA-USA Young Professionals of the Southern New York State Division is proud to present “Faces & Voices of Asia: FiRE! at The Village Pourhouse,” the first event hosted by the newly formed Asian Affairs Committee.
Join us in commemorating the United Nations’ International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition, annually observed on August 23. Filipinas for Rights and Empowerment (FiRE NYC), a local nonprofit connecting the local diaspora to the women’s struggle for equal rights in their home country, will discuss the “iVOW” campaign, focusing on helping human trafficking victims in New York and in the Philippines.
Advocate, ruminate, and activate through The Self-Portrait Project – find and document your inner humanitarian voice and share it with others in this unique educational and fundraising event. Use a remote-controlled two-way mirror photobooth to capture yourself with signs that state how you want to create a better world. Then access them online to share on Facebook, Twitter – anywhere you want your voice heard!
Confirmed Speakers:
* Andy Lin, Photographer and Creator, The Self-Portrait Project
* Irma Bajar, Chair, Filipinas for Rights and Empowerment
Photo tickets: $5 for three pictures; $10 for seven pictures (photo tickets will be used in the raffle drawing at the end of the evening)
Proceeds are shared between UNA-USA Young Professionals and FiRE! Drink specials offered until 8 p.m. ($2 Bud Light Draft, 2-for-1 on select cocktails) To RSVP, e-mail Asian Affairs Director Mandy Gor at mandy_gor[at]yahoo.com.
