LOGLINE: The Chinese cuisine of Dim Sum becomes an allegory for love in this four part exploration of new, old, illicit and unrequited loves seen through the lives of guests at the famed Nom Wah Tea Parlor in New York.
Filmed in Mandarin, Cantonese and some English.
ROLES – OLD COUPLE: Mr and Mrs Chen’s (60s) youngest son has left the modest family home in New York’s Chinatown to attend college on the West Coast. Mr Chen has just retired from career as a postman where he was known as the grumpiest postman in Chinatown. His demeanor is no different at home, he is a gruff ingrate and treats Mrs Chen with little more respect than one might a slave. Mrs Chen no longer knows what to do with herself now the boys have gone. She tries passing time at the mahjong parlors, community center activities but none of these seem to quieten the ponderous gulf between her and Mr Chen. Eventually they must try to relate to each other again. They have eaten lunch at Nom Wah every weekend for the past 30 years.
