This time at APICHA, we have the pleasure of hosting Lance, Stuart, and Kalani Chen-Hayes to share their journey first as a couple, then as a family. The Chen-Hayes family challenge multiple oppressi…ons on two continents in their personal lives, family, work, and K-8 school settings. This workshop will have particular focus on coming out, family creation, and advocacy for all ages and all types of families, within multiple cultural settings.
About the speakers:
Lance Chen-Hayes, D.P.T., is a physical therapist in central New Jersey. Stuart Chen-Hayes, Ph.D. is associate professor of Education/School Counseling at Lehman College of the City University of New York. Both have lectured widely on LBGT and anti-oppression issues in the USA and Taiwan. Their family story has been featured in multiple Chinese language and English publications including Gay Parent Magazine and the World Journal. Lance and Stuart will be celebrating their 15th anniversary in September, by renewing their vows and getting legally married in NYC.
Project Connect is a program created by APICHA to improve health for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex (LGBTQI) Asian and Pacic Islander (A&PI) communities. All A Healthier Me! Skills Workshops are tailored for LGBTQI A&PIs and FREE. Allies are welcome. A light dinner will be provided.
