The NYC-Based Japanese rock quartet was formed out of the members’ necessity for diversity. The fantastic foursome could not conform to one genre, style, or language. Upon meeting one another they made their debut in the spring of 2010. THE RiCECOOKERS – http://www.wearethericecookers.com
Member Tomomi Hiroishi (Vocal/ Guitar) was born and raised in Mexico City. The remaining members of the band Kota Fujii (Lead Guitar), Daisuke Wakabayashi (Bass), and Sohei Oyama (Drums), all grew up in Japan. As individuals they left their home countries to fulfill their ambitions in making music with integrity. They met at the Berklee College of Music in Massachusetts, found they had many things in common, and created the band in 2004.
In the spring of 2010, THE RiCECOOKERS made their Japanese debut. Their first EP titled “Four of our Songs” was followed by a successful Tokyo-live tour. During their work in Japan, renowned Film Director, Yukihiko Tsutsumi (20th Century Boys), saw their show by chance and was blown away by their explosive live performance. He later described them as, “the kind of rock music that I’ve been waiting for.” He soon booked THE RiCECOOKERS as the theme song for his 2010 TV drama series titled, “SPEC” (TBS Network), making history as the very first unknown Indies band to be featured as a theme song.
This dramatic debut catapulted THE RiCECOOKERS, and their songs quickly climbed the charts. They are one of the most talked about and celebrated Indie rock bands in Asia. Most recently, THE RiCECOOKERS released their first album 【sélf】and continue performing in NYC at venues such as Arlene’s Grocery and Fontana’s. J-Summit New York is a monthly concert series that supports diversity through compilation concerts. Their goal is to continue the support of Japanese entertainment to NYC audiences and give exciting performers of all genres a venue for their craft.
