The holiday-themed comedy marks the third entry in the popular “Harold & Kumar” film series (following “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle” and “Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay,” respectively) and is the first to be shot in 3D. The Kingsgate Films Production is a New Line Cinema presentation, in association with Mandate Pictures and opens November 4, 2011 in 3D and 2D in select theatres. “A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas” picks up six years after the duo’s last adventure. After years of growing apart, Harold Lee (John Cho) and Kumar Patel (Kal Penn) have replaced each other with new best friends and are preparing for their respective Yuletide celebrations. But when a mysterious package mistakenly arrives at Kumar’s door on Christmas Eve, his attempt to redirect it to Harold’s house ends with the “high grade” contents –and Harold’s father-in-law’s prize Christmas tree— going up in smoke. With his in-laws out of the house for the day, Harold decides to cover his tracks, rather than come clean. Reluctantly embarking on another ill-advised journey with Kumar through New York City, their search for the perfect replacement tree takes them through party heaven – and almost blows Christmas Eve sky high.

Kal Penn (Kumar Patel) returns to the role he made popular in “Harold & Kumar Go to White

Castle” and its follow-up “Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay.” He will next be seen opposite Martin Sheen in the drama “Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain.” His other feature credits include “Epic Movie,” “Van Wilder 2: The Rise of Taj,” “The Namesake,” “A Lot Like Love” and “Superman Returns.”  Known for his role as young Dr. Lawrence Kutner on the critically acclaimed television series “House,” Penn also had a recurring role on season six of “24” and guest starred on the hit series “Law & Order: SVU.”

Born and raised in New Jersey, Penn graduated from the Freehold Regional High School District’s Performing Arts High School, attended the Governor’s School for the Arts, and received a degree from the prestigious School of Theater, Film and Television at UCLA.  Penn was asked to work on Arts and Youth issues in President Barack Obama’s administration, has served as an Adjunct Professor of Cinema, Sociology and Asian American Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, and is currently pursuing a Graduate Certificate in International Security at Stanford University.
