There will be an exciting line-up of quality entertainment, from comedy to dance, music, martial arts and fashion.
The night will be a fun, unforgettable celebration to start the Year of the Dragon! This will also give everyone a chance to see what people do to celebrate the most important holiday in Asia and provide a venue for Asians to share the amazing night together. Besides the 2 fashion shows and the best entertainment, audience can also experience the number one beer in Japan, Asahi Beer and delicious food from Nom Wah Tea Parlor, the first and longest standing dim sum restaurant in Chinatown as well as the healthier and all-natural snacks Popchips!
The event’s lineup of performances include:
Reni Mimura (Cosplay Singer): Reni was born and raised in Japan and she released her first Japanese CD in 2006 produced by Takahiro Yamautsuri, who composed the music for one of the Pokemon movies. In 2008, Reni relocated to New York City and hopes to bring this unique style to the United States. Reni released her latest CD album “Sakura” in September 2009 and published her first photo book “Maid in NY” in March 2010. As her fan base increases, attention from the industry and Japan glows. In 2010, the National Broadcasting Television Station of Japan (NHK) made 2 documentaries on Reni’s career in America and the impact of her performances on western audiences and the fashion industry. Nina Sophia Mojares (Singer/Dancer): Nina is a recording artist, songwriter, actress, dancer, pianist and model. Though only 13 years old, Nina is already a seasoned entertainer having performed in front of large audiences including Madison Square Garden, Carnegie Hall and the US Open Tennis Championship. Nina was selected as Maury Povich’s as of one of the “Most Talented Kid” and a Semi-finalist on America’s Got Talent Season 5. She is also the current Junior Latin Ballroom Dance Champion. Rima Strauss (Entertainer): Trained as a classical guitarist, pianist, and vocalist in NYC, Rima first started singing Chinese songs at the end of 2007, when she became actively involved in Manhattan Chinatown’s music scene. For the past 4 years, Rima has been the only non-Chinese who sings Chinese songs to large Chinese audiences around NYC. She also performs American songs at various venues. Rima’s recent focus has been on encouraging audience participation as part of her performances.
Victor Chu (MC/Comedian): Victor has performed at comedy clubs such as Laugh Lounge, Carolines on Broadway, The Apollo and Comedy Cellar as well as colleges all over New York City. He is the creator of the youtube comedy show New York Chity (www.youtube.com/nychity)
Gao’s Kung Fu Academy (Martial Arts): The academy was founded in 1995 by Master Xian Gao in NYC. The curriculum is mainly on the development of traditional styles such as Tongbeiquan, Piquaquan, and Fanziquan. Contemporary Wushu, TaiJiQuan and weapons are studied as well. Master Gao learned traditional and modern wushu/kung fu from different teachers in his early years while pursuing a martial arts career and in turn, he has taught hundreds to thousands of students over the years.
