With a nameless samurai as the main character, Akira Kurosawa’s Yojimbo follows the exploits of the samurai as he works as bodyguard for a gang in a Japanese village. He soon becomes the bodyguard for the enemy gang also and pits the two against each other. Even though he is imprisoned for this, he actions cause the two gangs to wipe each other out. Yojimbo and the nameless samurai provides the first “man with no name,” which rises to fame a few years later in the embodiment of Clint Eastwood. Toshiro Mifune stars as the nameless samurai in this film that is considered one of the most influential of all time.
