The American Cancer Society today announced that its Pink & Black Tie Gala will return for a fourth year to Stage 6 at Steiner Studios on May 17, 2012. One of the leading charitable events of the year in Brooklyn, more than 450 attendees are expected, including corporate sponsors, business, healthcare and social leaders, and supporting celebrities. Guests will mix, mingle and party to celebrate those “Made in Brooklyn” and raise funds for the Society’s patient services and programs as well as national life-saving research.

Back by popular demand, Brooklyn’s own style expert and Pink & Black Tie Gala Chair Stacy London of TLC’s What Not to Wear will return to host the event. This year, she will be joined by some of the borough’s finest including Cat Greenleaf, of NBC’s Talk Stoop with Cat Greenleaf, who will host the event’s “pink carpet.” Comedian Chuck Nice will serve as auctioneer.

Each year at the Pink & Black Tie Gala, the American Cancer Society honors outstanding leaders who have contributed to Brooklyn’s health care, cultural, and business communities. The 2012 honorees are:

General Manager Javier Egipciaco joined NU Hotel in November 2009; he is a long time resident of Park Slope, Brooklyn.

Dr. Kathie-Ann Joseph is Assistant Professor of Surgery at NYU Langone Medical Center and Director of Breast Services of the South Manhattan Network for the Health and Hospitals Corporation where she oversees breast surgery at Bellevue and Woodhull Hospitals. Dr. Joseph is committed to treating underserved women and is the co-founder of the annual conference, Breast Cancer in Women of Color, a free educational symposium started eight years ago, that now draws over 300 women across the New York metropolitan area. She grew up and currently resides in Brooklyn with her husband and two children.

Brooklyn native Kangol Kid, Hip Hop Legend and Founder of the Mama Luke Foundation is recognized for his efforts to bring Hip-Hop artists such as Will Smith, L.L. Cool J, Mark Wahlberg, Kid Rock, Ice T and Flava Flav together through the Mama Luke Movement as Hip-Hop’s first public financial contribution towards the fight against breast cancer. Kangol’s award will be presented to him by Legendary Producer/Songwriter and Cancer Champion Paul Anthony of Full Force along with Bow-Legged Lou!

Highlights of the evening include live entertainment and dancing to DJ Diamond “The Artist”, who has appeared with artists including Beyonce and Prince, and on MTV, BET, Fuse, Much Music, Soul Train and Fox 5 television.
