When: Sunday , April 15th , 12-2pm
Where: Madison Avenue. Parade starts at 38th street and goes down to 26th street
Our good friend “The Kulakova Troupe” will be performing at NY Persian Parade showcasing different eye-catching and mood-elevating colorful costumes with their beautiful dance!
What: 11 dancers of The Kulakova Troupe introduce a new modern-folkloric composition to honor Kurdish culture through dance at NY Persian Parade 2012
Points of Interest: Hand-holding line dances are typical for Arabic world, Middle East, Mediterranean, Black and Caspian Sea areas, particularly, Kurdistan. Very different from individualized dances of the Western world, they represent the close connection among people in traditional societies. Kurdish dances also different from European and Slavic line and circle dances in their acknowledgement of nature and the earth as a source of vibration(bounce), which naturally builds up to the group hopping. Those dances are very therapeutic to participate in and exciting to watch. The 11 dancers of The Kulakova student troupe, coming from 92ndY, the Jewish Community Center and Sarah Lawrence College, all in multicolored sparkly costumes, will brighten the day and put you in a festive mood to celebrate the beginning of spring and Nowruz, Persian New Year at the NY Persian Parade 2012!
Plan Your Viewing: Official beginning of the Parade is at 12 noon. All the floats and performers start from the 38th street. Madison Avenue sidewalks get crowded with spectators and supporters at 38th and 37th street. You can get a comfortable view down the route, starting from 36th street until the 26th street.
After each group, representing culture of different regions of Iran, has worked the route of the Parade, participants and spectators can mingle, socialize and dance to contagious Persian pop tunes at the Madison Park (enter at E 26thstreet).
