DATE : May 13th, 2012 (Sunday: Mother’s Day)
PLACE : Bandshell (Main entrance at 69th St.& 5th Ave.)
Since Japan Day @ Central Park first started in 2007, we have been delighted at how quickly this new tradition has captured the interest of New Yorkers with the official support of the Consulate-General of Japan in New York, the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of New York, The Nippon Club and many corporations.
Japan Day @ Central Park 2011 took place in May with over 30,000 people participating, and in light of the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan, the event was designed to send the message of “GANBARE [YOU CAN DO IT] JAPAN!” to the people in Japan, as well as to raise donations to help Japan recover.
Japan Day@ Central Park is scheduled for May 13th 2012! 2012 marks the 100th anniversary of the cherry trees given by Japan to the U.S. as a symbol of enduring cross cultural friendship, and Japan Day this year will feature special events to celebrate this proud centennial. In addition, food tents will be back by popular demand, along with activity tents and stage performances showcasing many exciting facets of contemporary and traditional Japanese culture.
