This year NYCCC is honoring outstanding Asian women and recognizing New York State Assemblywoman Grace Meng 孟昭文 for her contributions to the Asian community and being a role model to the young generations. Asian Women in Business, a non-profit organization that advocates and addresses issues that affect Asian women in business is also being honored.
As the first ever Asian-American appointed to hold a cabinet position, Assemblywoman Grace Meng is a dedicated bridge builder and fighter for equality. As a mother of two young children, Grace’s top priorities are making sure that all children are healthy and receive a quality education.
Founded in 1995, Asian Women in Business (AWIB) is the only non-profit organization in the country with the primary mission of assisting Asian women entrepreneurs. AWIB provides individualized technical assistance and sponsors numerous conferences, workshops, and receptions; and serves as a support mechanism for entrepreneurs and professionals. Ms. Bonnie Wong, the founder and president of AWIB will be accepting the award for AWIB.
Founded in 1974, NYCCC, a nonprofit performing arts and educational organization, is dedicated to deepening the understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture in the global and local communities through education and the arts. Today, NYCCC has grown to become the leading Chinese cultural institution in New York City, providing over 3,000 classes and conducting workshops to more than 10,000 New York City public school students in all five boroughs.
Nationally, NYCCC’s assembly programs reach audiences of over 150,000 people of all ages and backgrounds. In addition, NYCCC’s teaching system has become a model for other Chinese dance and art schools in the U.S. and Canada. We strongly believe cultural enrichment is important to the global community and for over 37 years, NYCCC has provided a vital linkage to the diverse communities and across generations.
