Win tickets to see the extraordinary Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe, coming to NY for three special performances @AsiaSocietyNY from 5/18~5/20.
The Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe, one of the oldest and most influential forms of Chinese opera, the troupe brings 20 performers to New York for three special performances at Asia Society New York (725 Park Avenue, New York, NY). Performing The Lanke Mountain on May 18 and May 19, and a family matinee performance of Monkey King: Journey to the West on May 20.
The Lanke Mountain is a tale of greed, ambition, betrayal and humor; a story which harkens back to a historical past while connecting to contemporary times. The story followings the heroine Cui, who divorces and then attempts to return to her husband. It is acted with total abandon, rarely seen in Kunqu performances which are generally marked by subtlety and restraint.
This Sunday matinee for families features the beloved Chinese superhero, the Monkey King, in the unforgettable classic Journey to the West. Join the clever but naughty Monkey King as he angers everyone with his mischievous behavior, then atones by journeying across China to bring Buddhist scriptures back from India.
