Asia Society Museum in New York City will offer free admission to all visitors on Friday, May 18 as part of the Association of Art Museum Directors’ (AAMD) Art Museum Day, which coincides with International Museum Day.
From 11 a.m. to a special late closing time of 9 p.m., the museum will offer complimentary access to the first major U.S. retrospective of Chinese modern master Wu Guanzhong. Revolutionary Ink: The Paintings of Wu Guanzhong features more than 50 by Wu, famous for his unique large-scale take on traditional Chinese ink painting (click here for a sneak peek). The New York Times calls the exhibition — which is a collaboration with the Shanghai Art Museum — “a new chapter in the China-U.S. art relationship.”
“AAMD believes that art should be accessible and relevant to all, and we are so pleased that Asia Society Museum is joining with us and the global community of museums to celebrate the role museums play in their communities and to encourage visitors to share their museum experiences,” said Chris Anagnos, Executive Director of AAMD.
