The Art Students League of New York: Phyllis Harriman Mason Gallery
The Art Students League of New York is pleased to invite you to a special viewing of the extraordinary 30-foot-long Scroll for Japan, hand-painted by former Vytlacil resident, Jave Yoshimoto, in the Japanese style of ukiyo-e woodblock prints.
In describing the origin of the ten-month art project, Mr. Yoshimoto said, “To combat social amnesia in the internet age, I wanted to create a lasting memorial that would long honor the victims and survivors of the Tohoku earthquake.” You can read more about this project in the Huffington Post article “Art Students League’s ‘Scroll for Japan’ to Benefit Tsunami Disaster.”
This event will also feature live music by composer Russell Daisey and a performance by the Yuko Takahashi Dance Company. Internationally renowned psychologist and humanitarian Dr. Judy Kuriansky will deliver a brief address.
Eighty percent of all proceeds raised will go towards on-the-ground support of survivors in the area hit hardest by the March 11, 2011 earthquake/tsunami in northern Japan.
Please join us for this meaningful event.
