Japan Block Fair aims to introduce New Yorkers to the variety found within Japanese culture.
Vendors will line one block of Park Avenue selling traditional Japanese food and merchandise while everyone enjoys Japanese-themed activities and special performances.
Performers:
HIP (Home Island Project) – Dancers who traveled from Shikoku, Japan, to perform that island’s traditional Awa Odori. HIP will perform onstage and in the street at 12:15 p.m., 2:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. They will also have a Japanese uchiwa (fan) crafting booth at Japan Block Fair.
10tecomai – Yosakoi, a unique group dance style developed in Japan, is the basis of this traditional yet contemporary dance troupe.
Ryu-Kaji – Led by instructor and performer Saki Taguchi, Ryu-Kaji will perform songs on the sanshin, a traditional three-stringed banjo-like instrument native to Okinawa.
There will also be exciting Ninja performances throughout the day!
