Lincoln Park, New Jersey
The Philippine-American Friendship Committee, Inc.’s (PAFCOM’s) mission is to foster Filipino-American unity through community-centered social, educational, and cultural events and programming, and to provide supportive services for the Filipino-American community of Jersey City and greater Hudson County. PAFCOM promotes and celebrates the richly diverse Filipino culture in an effort to build a strong community by bringing together people from different backgrounds and experiences.
PAFCOM was founded in 1989 by Lito Gajilan, who felt strongly that the Filipino-American community needed a day to showcase its unity, and celebrate its culture through a lively celebration with decorated floats, folk dancing, traditional and contemporary music, regional cuisine, and local talent. The annual Philippine-American Friendship Day celebration has established a legacy and is an event Jersey City and its residents look forward to every June. Annually, approximately 30,000 people celebrate Filipino-American pride. The parade is running in its 22nd year and it is one of the most celebrated and widely attended recurring Filipino-American events in the nation.
