New Music Seminar (NMS), in conjunction with New York City Mayor’s Office of Media & Entertainment, announces the first-ever “New York Music Week” from Thursday, June 14, 2012 – Thursday, June 21, 2012.
NMS, along with the American Association for Independent Music (A2IM), the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and Make Music New York are bringing the international music and entertainment industry together for a week of festivities in order to conduct business, support new artists and entertainment, and work on building a more robust music industry with New York City as its epicenter.

“New York City is home to some of the best musicians in the world,” said NYC Mayor’s Office of Media & Entertainment Commissioner Katherine Oliver. “New York Music Week allows us to showcase some of that terrific talent to the best fans. Music is another important part of our local entertainment industry that’s responsible for so many jobs here, and we are proud to be part of this exciting week.”

New Music Seminar: June 17-19, 2012
In the 80’s and early 90’s, the New Music Seminar was the largest music conference in the world, held in New York every summer. It became the hub around which new music and other businesses spun out from including other music conferences.

Now, from the co-founder and director of the original legendary New Music Seminar comes a conference for the Next Music Business. Rapidly changing music creation, exposure and monetization opportunities coupled with music fans’ changing music consumption habits are transforming the old “record business” into an entirely new industry. The New Music Seminar, with over 150 confirmed Players, is the meeting place of music visionaries, upstarts, and disruptors and where the old rules are broken and new ideas will hatch into a vital new music business.

NMS New York Music Festival: June 17-20, 2012
The first of its kind the NMS NY Music Festival is scheduled to take place in 17 venues from June 17-20. NMS, along with their Partners – BMI, eMusic, Filter Magazine, Folk Alliance, OurStage, ReverbNation and SESAC – have brought together the best and brightest artists of the next generation for four nights of performances in NYC and Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

The Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala: June 14, 2012
Inductees at the 43rd annual Songwriters Hall of Fame event include Gordon Lightfoot, Bob Seger, Don Schlitz, Harvey Schmidt & Tom Jones and Jim Steinman. The Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Bette Midler, with Ne-Yo receiving the Hal David Starlight Award. Lance Freed will be the recipient of the Abe Olman Publisher Award, and the first-ever Pioneer Award will be posthumously awarded to Woody Guthrie. “Stand By Me” is the Towering Song, with co-writer Ben E. King being honored with the Towering Performance Award.

The Songwriters Hall of Fame celebrates songwriters, educates the public with regard to their achievements, and produces a spectrum of professional programs devoted to the development of new songwriting talent through workshops, showcases and scholarships. There are fewer than 400 inductees who make up the impressive roster enshrined in the Hall of Fame.

The American Association of Independent Music (“A2IM”) Indie Week and “The Libbies”: June 19-21, 2012

Indie Week will be capped off by the inaugural independent music awards event, the Libera Awards (“The Libbies”) on the evening of Thursday, June 21st at Le Poisson Rouge where the best of the best independents will be celebrated for a year filled with successes.
