Hanji Metamorphoses is an exposition at several venues in New York City that serves to demonstrate many of the creative and transformative ways in which Hanji paper may be used. Hanji is a versatile material that awaits the metamorphosis of creativity that may transform it into whatever an artist may imagine. Hanji is a Korean paper made from a process that combines the bark of the Mulberry Tree and the mucilage of the Hibiscus to create a unique material. In ancient times it was esteemed by the Chinese as being the best paper of its kind in Asia. It consists of delicately overlaid natural fibers that combine to give the material strength and a smooth surface.
