Columbus Park in Chinatown
Celebrating the cultural and historical richness of Chinatown, the Festival recognizes the valuable contributions of New York’s immigrants. Attendees learn about a myriad of programs and services available in the community. Attracting over 7,500 people – residents and tourists – each year, the festival offers exhibits, free healthcare services, entertainment, and children’s activities.
Volunteers will help out with the following activities:
Exhibits: sponsoring and participating organizations hand out literature to guide people to a wide array of resources in the community;
Healthcare: free health services, screenings, exams are offered by participating local hospitals and healthcare providers;
Entertainment: traditional cultural performances are showcased along with the cultural fare of a variety of contemporary Asian American artists and entertainers;
Children’s activities: face painting, drawing contests, games and other fun activities designed to engage children and their parents, elder siblings or grandparents!
Awards Ceremony: Each year, AAFE (Asian Americans For Equality) honors individuals who have contributed to the well-being of the community by their work, presence, active participation, support or other activities that they have spearheaded in their respective neighborhoods or community.
