Taiwanese actress Michelle CHEN 陳妍希, arguably one of the hottest new talents to emerge in Greater China in the past year, has been snapped up by ATN Talent Management Ltd 大國豐臣演藝人有限公司.
The newish company will represent the 29-year-old You Are the Apple of My Eye 那些年,我們一起追的女孩。 star worldwide, in all performing arts. Chen recently split from the management company of Apple producer Angie CHAI 柴智屏.
ATN, which is headed by producer Terence CHANG 張家振 and backed by the Tomson Group 湯臣集團有限公司 and Now TV 寬頻電視, aims to promote Chen as a singer-songwriter, as well as an actress. It is planning her first album for 2013.
Chen got her break on television in 2007. Last year’s performance as a schoolgirl in Apple was her third role after an award-winning supporting role in youth romance Hear Me 聽說 (2009) and as female lead in Tempest of First Love 初戀風暴 (2010).
She has been linked with several upcoming films including WANG Ziming 王子鳴’s The One Detective 不二神探 (opposite Jet LI 李連杰), Clarence FOK 霍耀良’s Together 在一起 (opposite Donnie YEN 甄子丹), and Zero CHOU 周美玲’s Ripples of Desire 花漾 (opposite Hear Me co-star Ivy CHEN 陳意涵.).
Chang told Film Business Asia that Chen would star in two additional pictures being produced and packaged by his own production companies.
One, currently being negotiated is a romantic drama to be partially shot in Europe, with the successful team of Raymond YIP 葉偉民 and Manfred WONG 文雋 as director and producer. John WOO 吳宇森 and Laura FU 浮樂蓮 would also produce. The other is a love story that would feature Chen’s music.
Chen attended the University of Southern California and speaks English as well as Mandarin. She recently received the New York Asian Film Festival’s Rising Star Award, previously presented to HUANG Bo 黃渤 and YAMADA Takayuki 山田孝之.
