DIRECTOR, STUDENT FINANCE
Position Summary
This position is responsible for the leadership, training, hiring, work schedules, and management of the Student Finance Department staff for a metro region which will serve graduate and undergraduate students. The position manages all on-campus processing and application of financial aid (federal, state, and/or private funding); provides outstanding customer service; works various daily, weekly and monthly reports; staff reviews; alternative loan applications; direct responsibility for the federal work study program and collection of account receivables.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:
1. Provides professional leadership to the staff of the Student Finance Department.
2. Maintains a professional work environment to ensure a high level of customer service to students, parents, staff and outside agencies seeking information.
3. Manages and insures the integrity of all receivables.
4. Reviews of all federal and state aid funding awarded to students in the metro for both graduate and undergraduate students.
5. Responsible for the overall collection and reduction of A/R within the metro (graduate/undergraduate).
6. Ensures timely awarding, authorization and disbursement of all state, federal and DeVry aid.
7. Completes other projects and duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills
-Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required, Master’s Degree preferred.
-At least eight to ten years of current professional experience in student financial aid including two years of departmental management experience. Experience must be in an academic environment.
-Experience in administering NY State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) and New York Aid for Part Time Students (APTS) is preferred.
-Experience training/mentoring staff in financial aid and student account functions.
-Experience in application of federal regulations in the administration of financial aid programs.
-Experience in the application of FERPA laws in a college/university environment.
-Experience in the utilization of financial aid software, such as PowerFaids,
-Ability to manage sensitive, confidential issues.
-Ability to work in a fast-paced deadline oriented environment.
-Ability to multi-task, prioritize workload.
-Strong organizational and time management skills.

Hours of Work
The employee must work 2 evenings per week and 2 Saturdays per month. The schedule during peak times may change.
The Campus is located in Long Island City on the Queens side of the 59th St. Bridge. The 7, E, V and G trains, and the LIRR are near the Campus; a free, continuously running van takes employees to and from train stations.
