Sakiko Ichikawa was born in 1978 in Nagoya. She started to learn drawing at the age of nine, and she went on to the art course in high school.
After graduating from Nagoya University of Arts, She flew to India. And there, she enhanced her sensitivity, while traveling around the country and doing volunteer works besides artistic activities
She had produced various art works such as Acrylic painting, oil painting, and installation using egg shell, etc.
Traveling overseas gave her chances to recognize the beauty of four seasons and the richness of traditional culture in Japan.
Especially, she was impressed by the depth of the expression of wood block prints, which represents Japan’s traditional culture. And now she mainly works on expressive activities by the wood block-print
Wood block prints is helpful for her to express the senses, fragrance, twinge, feeling of dignified air, doze, and sense of drift、which we experience at the turn of seasons.
She hopes that viewers, who encounter her works, will be healed. She is grateful if her works let them feel fresh air surrounding and separate from their busy daily lives even if it is a brief moment. by encountering her works.
Her wish is to produce works that touch heart of people, while respecting the warmth of her hands, various techniques, and Japan’s unique materials in each piece of her wood block print.
