Moving Earth Productions is proud to present the full production run of “Say You Heard My Echo,” an evening-length spoken word theater production at HERE Arts Center in NYC (9/12/12-9/16/12) commissioned by Asian American Arts Alliance for the 2012 Locating the Sacred Festival!
FROM KELLY:
As playwright and performer for this piece, I couldn’t be prouder of the team of professionals that we’ve assembled, which includes my fellow performers Adeeba Rana & YaliniDream, our mighty director Jesse Y. Jou, our fearless producers Ying Le, Nancy Kim, & Rising Circle Theater Collective, and a brilliant group of designers Chien-Yu Peng (set), Mike Skinner (sound), Alan Edwards (lights), Valerie Bart (costumes), and our newly added stage manager John Nehlich. It has long been my dream to create a full-length spoken word theater piece that could further elevate and innovate what spoken word and theater have to offer, and I couldn’t pick a more insightful and passionate team to bring that vision home to NYC!
Making this project artistically excellent and socially relevant has been a guiding principle for our team as we’ve developed this piece through 3 staged readings and 1 workshop production over the last year (very much aided by outstanding producer Andre Lancaster & dramaturg Amissa Miller).
In a lot of ways, this play is my love letter to NYC and Asian American women’s stories of faith, survival, and strength post-9/11. Although the characters in this play are fictional, their stories, experiences, and quirks draw from my life, people that I love, and people whose stories have inspired me.
On behalf of our team, THANK YOU for supporting this vision!
