The hotel pool at La Piscine at Hôtel Americano

Normally, hotel pools are closed to the public, but with the new swimming hole at King & Grove in Williamsburg, you can don your swimsuit and get wet. We’ve also found out how to take the plunge in the Dream Downtown’s pool. Plus, check out two rooftop bars where you can hang out by the pool.

The pool area atop this ten-floor Chelsea boutique hotel opens to the public at 6pm (not for swimming, though toe dips are welcome); but the adjacent bar and grill welcomes patrons from noon and boasts expansive views of Manhattan and the Hudson River. Warm-weather locales inspire the menu: Dishes such as taramasalata with pita ($7) and grilled octopus salad ($18) skew Mediterranean, while the drink list includes hibiscus margaritas served by the glass ($16) or pitcher ($82).

The Pool at King & Grove Williamsburg
Daily 11am–9pm. Mon–Thu $30, Fri–Sun $45. (Reservations required)
160 North 12th St between Bedford Ave and Berry St, Williamsburg, Brooklyn
718-218-7500

This 40-by-20-foot, four-foot-deep saltwater swimming hole may not perch on a roof, but the ground-floor deck makes up for lack of altitude with the chance to do laps. The spacious terrace seats 150 and offers poolside service, with cocktails like the Daytripper (Aperol, strawberry-infused bianco vermouth, soda; $9) and bites such as a crispy soft-shell-crab panino ($14).

Bar d’Eau at Trump SoHo
Daily 5:30–10:30pm. Cabana rental: day 10am–6pm, evening 6–11pm, all-day 10am–11pm.
246 Spring St, (at Varick St)
212-229-2336

An arching waterfall spills into the Trump SoHo’s mosaic-tiled pool, set on an L-shaped seventh-floor patio and surrounded by deck chairs and lounge seating. While swimming is forbidden in the evening, a bocce court provides a dry diversion, bolstered by haute bar snacks ($10–$22) and cocktails ($15–$20).

The Beach at Dream Downtown
Daily 5:30–10:30pm. Cabana rental: day 10am–6pm, evening 6–11pm, all-day 10am–11pm.
355 W 16th St, (between Eighth and Ninth Aves), 10011
212-229-2336

The second-floor terrace of this mod Meatpacking District hotel channels the French Riviera with crisp navy-and-white chaises and umbrellas; a glass-bottomed pool, visible from the lobby downstairs; and even sand—shipped in from Montauk—in a separate beach area (keeping the water grit-free). In the evening, swimming’s off-limits, but those in need of a daytime plunge can skirt the guests-only rule by booking one of two cabanas, which seat up to ten.
