BoA Kwon is a Korean singer and is known as the Queen of Korean Pop. BoA has expanded her singing career throughout South Korea, Japan, and the United States. She is known by her stage name BoA, which is a backronym for Best of Asia and Beat of Angel.
BoA was born on November 5, 1986 and was raised in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. SM Entertainment talent agents discovered BoA when she went with her older brother to a talent search. After two years of training, she released her debut Korean album, ID; Peace B, in the year 2000. In 2002, BoA’s debut Japanese album, Listen to My Heart, was released in Japan, making BoA the first Korean pop star to break through Japan’s entertainment industry since the restriction of the import and export of entertainment between the countries since the end of World War II.
BoA is multilingual. She speaks native Korean, Japanese and English. BoA has recorded songs in Mandarin Chinese, which contributed to her commercial success throughout East Asia. She is the only foreign artist to have two albums selling more than one million copies in Japan. She is also one of only three artists, Ayumi Hamasaki and Koda Kumi, who has six consecutive number-one studio albums on the Oricon charts since her debut.
