Two years in the making, the Locating the Sacred Festival, a project of the Asian American Arts Alliance, has brought together hundreds of artists, arts workers and cultural activists to create twenty-five events in churches, museums, cultural centers, botanical gardens and theaters across all five boroughs of New York City, exploring the meaning of the word “sacred” and its relevance in their communities.
Exhibiting Artists Eric Gamalinda, Jennie Chien, Ranjit Bhatnagar, David Chang. The exhibition is the starting point of Eric Gamalinda’s multi-venue project, Deep Splendor: The Way of the Bodhisattva. Artists Jennie Chien’s Meditations Under the Blessing Tree and Ranjit Bhatnagar’s Still Space invite the audience to listen deeply to the rhythm of their own breathing. The artist David Chang transforms the gallery space into an immersive performance of sacred calligraphy.
