About SCN:
Success Charter Network received its first school charter in January 2006 from The State University of New York. Dr. Eva Moskowitz, a former member of the New York City Council and Chair of its Education Committee, is the CEO of the Network. Mr. Joel Greenblatt and Mr. John Petry, founders of the successful hedge fund Gotham Capital, are the President and Treasurer of the Board of Trustees, respectively. SCN’s annual operating budget is currently $20 million, with 140 staff working in instruction and operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Oversee all financial operations and controls including those relating to cash management, budgeting, and third party relationships such as with accountants
• Develop and implement integrated and scalable financial and accounting systems at the Network and the schools
• Ensure accurate and timely record-keeping and readiness for annual audits
• Oversee reporting deliverables including budgeting and variance reports; balance sheet, profit-and-loss, and cash flow statements; and senior management reports. These will be provided to the CEO, school principals, boards of trustees at the Network and schools, and potential donors and grant-making foundations.
• Manage grant compliance requirements as well as compliance with all local, state, and federal financial requirements
• Manage and develop a team of 4 staff members
Qualifications:
• Minimum of 5 years of financial experience, with demonstrated operational responsibility for building control and reporting systems.
• Strong accounting or auditing background. CPA preferred, although not required. Knowledge of Financial Edge accounting software preferred, although not required.
• Track record of crisp decision-making in a deadline-driven workplace.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Leadership experience in an entrepreneurial, service-oriented environment is preferred.
• Not-for-profit experience is a plus.
