The Philippine Forum extends its warm invitation to you and/or your organization to be part of the Second Annual Lantern Festival, which aims to celebrate the International Migrants Day (originally December 18), carries the theme “Lighting the Way for Migrants’ Rights, Diversity and Solidarity”.
The Lantern Festival, which was first launched in 2011, is a project of Philippine Forum, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. Various individuals and member organizations of the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns (NAFCON) and the International Migrants Alliance (IMA) also support the event. It is the only interfaith and multi-ethnic celebration of International Migrants Day in Queens, the heart of the most diverse im/migrant community in New York, if not in the world.
The Lantern Festival, which aims to forge solidarity among im/migrants, will include vibrant cultural presentations of various ethnic im/migrant communities at the Solidarity Cultural Program. The Lantern Parade will follow.
For the Lantern Parade, participants must bring bright lanterns that reflect the theme. If participants do not own a lantern, but are interested in joining the parade, the Bayanihan Community Center will be hosting a series of workshops on making lanterns and a discussion on why we celebrate International Migrants Day. The lantern-making workshops will be held at the Bayanihan Community Center on Dec. 1 (Sat) and Dec 8 (Sat) from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
In a united effort, let us bring forth the true loving spirit of the holiday season. Join us as we light the streets while acknowledging and upholding the rights and welfare of im/migrants all over the world.
