We are seeking an energetic, hard-working,entrepreneurial person with deep solar engineering expertise as a team memberto accelerate the growth of our company.
Position Expectations:
As part of the senior management team, the Vice President ofProject Engineering will be responsible for managing the design and permittingof large-scale (100+ kW) solar PV systems. This includes performing site qualificationvisits, making cost-effective technology selections, developing electrical andstructural system designs, developing the necessary design drawing sets,overseeing the permitting and interconnection processes and supporting the procurementprocess. The VP of Project Engineering willalso be responsible to provide pre-sales support to evaluate project viabilityand develop preliminary designs to support sales efforts. He/She will be responsible for helping buildand oversee the engineering team. Considerableexperience and creativity are required, as well as the ability and maturity tomanage growth within a fast-paced, start-up environment.
Responsibilities:
• Attend site qualification visits to collect information required to complete the design and permitting of large-scale solar electric systems.
• Design innovative and costefficient photovoltaic installations.
• Develop structural and electrical designs for large-scale solar electric systems that meet all national, state and local code requirements as well as customer defined requirements.
• Obtain design approvals from additional licensed engineering support as necessary.
• Create professional design drawings showing the structural, electrical and site plan design of large scale solar electric systems.
• Manage the submission of drawings to the appropriate agencies in order to obtain the necessary permits and incentives to allow for the financial viability and construction of large-scale solar electric systems.
• Coordinate the development of a bill of material for each project based on the final approved design.
• Provide technical input to support the interconnection application and utility approval process.
• Provide support during the inspection of system installations in order to obtain final inspection approval.
Qualifications:
Youmust be passionate about the renewable energy business, be willing to workextremely hard, and enjoy the fast pace of an early stage company withtremendous growth potential. Inaddition, you must possess:
• A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. (A Mechanical Engineering degree may be acceptable depending on the amount of electrical design experience the candidate has.)
• A minimum of 3 years experience performing design and permitting activities with a solar electric installation company on commercial scale installations. (Additional experience performing design and permitting activities with an electrical engineering company is a plus.)
• Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD 2007 software.
• Strong organizational skills to manage the activities required in the design and permitting of large-scale solar PV systems.
• Good working knowledge of MS Office programs, specifically Word and Excel.
• Occasional travel (15 to 20%) to attend site qualification visits and to provide design support during system permitting, construction and inspection.
• Professional Electrical Engineering license and state electrical contractor’s license highly desirable.
• Experience designing with medium voltage equipment would be a valuable asset for this position.
• Experience working in the construction industry would be a valuable asset for this position.
