AsainInNY is very proud to be one of the hosting committees for this year’s From Scotland with Love Fashion Show to showcase and highlight Asian and Scottish talent of all ages.
Monday, April 8th, 2013 7:30 PM COCKTAILS/ 9 PM FASHION SHOW
STAGE 48: 605 West 48th Street, New York City (between 11th and 12th Streets)
Hot Scots and bold-faced names from Glasgow, Edinburgh, London, Toronto, Los Angeles , Hong Kong, Shanghai and New York will again take over Manhattan as the centerpiece of Tartan Week 2013 on Monday night April 8th. Not only is this show the biggest and most prestigious Scottish fashion event in the world, it also one of the top three fashion shows in the world in terms of press and media coverage.
Those of you involved in international business understand all too well that the economies in the UK, Europe and the US are still struggling. In deciding on a new theme for this year’s show we wanted to be able to expand the commercial opportunities for our designers, manufacturers and business partners. When we look at growth these days we look at the Asian markets. We therefore wanted to engage new Asian buyers, designers, business and financial institution partners, models and participants in general who have an interest in working with new Scottish partners. Our focus will be on China, Korea and Japan. We are looking forward to having Asian designers work with Scottish textile companies. Indeed, a number of collaborations have already commenced with Vivienne Tam, Zang Toi, and Chloe Chen to mention but a few.
The yin/yang design of this year’s “Scottish Lion Meets the Asian Dragon” logo was created in Scotland and it captures the tone of our 2013 fashion show. The number 8 is considered a very lucky number in Chinese culture and it indicates prosperity, wealth and success. We therefore agreed to hold this year’s event on April 8th, and for this year only we will be reducing the price of the “under 30 Ticket” from $99 to $88. We can also now announce that we have a very talented individual helping us with some of the choreography of the next show. His name is Joel Hanna (www.joelhanna.com), and he is now choreographing shows for both Riverdance and Cirque du Soleil. True to our theme this year, his parents are both Scottish and Asian and he grew up in Vancouver. With our new theme and extended geographic reach, we believe that there is a good chance that we will be able to significantly increase the press and media coverage for our business partners, sponsors and designers.
To raise funds for very worthwhile charities in the US and the UK: The Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) will again be our primary beneficiary in the United States. This charity helps the thousands of wounded warriors returning home from the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan and it also provides much needed assistance to their families. There is a serious problem that is not receiving a great deal of attention, and that is that the number of US soldier suicides outnumbered combat deaths in 2012 and the trajectory for soldier suicides continues to get worse. Though we are not a political organization, we believe that we owe the young men and women risking their lives to protect us a huge debt of gratitude.
